Meet Sophie Parkinson, Kirklees’ first Young Ambassador for Textiles! Sophie, from Linthwaite in Huddersfield, is aged 16 & a Year 12 student at Huddersfield New College. Yesterday, we went to visit her Textile Design A Level class at the kind invitation of her teacher, Vicky Close. Vicky told us of the many opportunities studying Textile Design opens up for students. Sophie said, ‘It’s a fantastic course. What I enjoy best is the making. You go from a flat drawing in your book to the 3D realisation of a garment.’
Sophie’s looking forward to getting stuck in to all the opportunities WOVEN, the brand new textile festival in Kirklees, can offer.
