The Calico Dress project is now underway across all five areas of West Yorkshire and it’s already bringing together an inspiring network of community partners.
In Kirklees, we’re working with Ravensthorpe Community Centre to bring the dress to life. Wakefield is led by Apple Tree Community Garden and Spectrum People, while in Leeds, the project is hosted by Sunnybank Mills Archive and Museum, with informal gatherings taking place at Leeds Art Gallery.
In Bradford, the dress is being supported by WOVEN in collaboration with Mussarat Rahman, Director of the Intercultured Festival. In Calderdale, the dress will be supported by Everybody Arts and Bankfield Museum.
Each community will shape its own Calico Dress, created by local voices, stories in stitch and creativity. The five finished dresses will come together in a powerful collective showcase at WOVEN Festival in June 2027 celebrating the rich diversity and shared heritage of West Yorkshire.
