Textile Futures

Science and Innovation Spectacular event hosts

Bringing textile industry demonstrations, higher education tours and careers information together for the first time in Kirklees, TEXTILE FUTURES is a collaboration between WOVEN, industry partners Camira, Wooltex, Bower Roebuck, Gardiner Yarns, Fabworks, Textile Centre of Excellence, and the University of Huddersfield. It is supported by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Throughout the day you will have the opportunity to speak with local textile manufacturers, tour the fashion and textiles facilities at the University, learn about various career pathways into different textile sectors and tour the Technical Textiles research labs to watch textile science experiments.

The aim of the day is to inform and inspire young people and their families with the impressive textile manufacturing, science, innovation and design on our doorstep in Kirklees.

Visitors are welcome to drop in throughout the day (11am-2pm) and:

– Tour the fashion and textile facilities at the Barbara Hepworth Building including the graduate showcase [11:15 / 12:15 / 13:15]

– Tour & observe live textile Science experiments in the Technical Textiles Research Centre [11:15 / 12:15 / 13:15]

– Explore the work of Industry Innovators, ask questions and see what is produced locally [drop in]

– Talk to textile industry professionals, University Alumni and post-16 education specialists [drop in]

ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND FUNDING ADVICE SESSION (12:30-13:30)
This short discussion session, aimed at practitioners and makers, will be an opportunity for you to find out more about what Arts Council England do and how you can apply for funding with a particular focus on Developing Your Creative Practice.
