Counting down to WOVEN…

Threads of Life book

We’re counting down to the start of the WOVEN in Kirklees festival! We’re  excited to bring you a packed programme of workshops, talks and events with a diverse series of guest speakers, makers and artists who’ll share their stories.

Immerse yourself in the wonderful world of textiles and find out about the history of sewing with textile artist, curator and author of Threads of Life, Clare Hunter. Featured on Radio 4’s Book of the Week earlier this year, this talk takes you on a journey back in time to discover the history of sewing & embroidery, told through the stories of men and women who’ve used the language of sewing to make their voices heard. Clare Hunter will be in conversation with Dr Claire Barber, Senior Lecturer in Textiles at University of Huddersfield.

Threads of Life is a beautifully considered book that reminds us of how much sewing plays a crucial part in expressing the many facets of our lives. Clare Hunter has managed to mix the personal with the political with moving results. Reading it made me pick up my needle with a new perspective.’ Tracy Chevalier
