Wakefield Calico Dress

Wakefield’s Calico Dress is hosted by Spectrum People. Their dress is all about stories personal, collective, big or small. Those who contribute a patch become part of the project as Story Weavers, sharing a story, memory, or idea through stitch. Groups are supported by Weave Guides, facilitators who create welcoming spaces for participants to develop their ideas.

So far, 17 community groups and 40 individuals are actively involved! Their Story Weavers span all walks of life. From young children aged 3 upwards and home education families, to mental health and wellbeing groups, historic house volunteers and sight-impaired crafters. They are proud to work alongside LGBTQIA+ groups, people living with long-term or life-limiting conditions, local craft circles and sanctuary-seeking groups. Together, the project brings together a vibrant tapestry of multi-faith communities and diverse global cultures.

Once all the patches are finished, the dress will be assembled by The Gathering Circle, a dedicated team entrusted with thoughtfully arranging and stitching each patch into place to form one collective expression of Wakefield’s stories.
