Join us for World Stitch Day, a vibrant celebration of the universal language of stitch and textiles! Inspired by the iconic The Red Dress Embroidery Project, this immersive event brings together community groups, expert stitchers, and textile enthusiasts to explore the rich tapestry of global embroidery traditions.

With live showcases, interactive stalls and storytelling in stitch – Watch master stitchers from diverse cultures demonstrate their traditional techniques and discover stunning fabrics and embroidery styles from around the world, and explore projects that weave together history, heritage, and artistry.

– 6 million + with textiles created and clothing tales told by local refugee groups for their Wear and Share project.

– Local artist Iqra shares traditional hand-stitched tunics made with local communities of Pakistani heritage

– Seiko will showcase the Japanese tradition of Sashiko stitching

– The African Fabric Shop brings us a visual feast of pattern and print

– Lace-making demonstrations by artist Francis Ayers

– Local stitcher Sue Carter celebrates stitch traditions and heart-warming family heirlooms

– Huddersfield Embroidery and Textiles Group will share the Greek myth inspired Archane a naturally dyed dress created as part of the Growing Colour Together project. There’ll be an abundance of Dorset buttons, highlighting the traditional handmade craft that originated in Dorset in the 17th century.

Hands-On Workshops – Try your hand at embroidery techniques from different countries and take home your own stitched creation!

Including:

– The Textile Time Machine from The Campervan Collective.  Explore the past and future to create a fantastical time machine using textiles, words and mark making. Bring a textile object or scrap that holds a personal memory for you and dive into a creative journey to explore collaboration, memory and the concept of home.  You don’t need to have any skills for this workshop – you can knot, wind, wrap or stitch. If you don’t have a textile object to bring, we will be providing lots of fabric to choose from. All ages welcome!

– Stitch workshops with Kim Searle from Darn It!

Plus Roving performances by We Great Ladies, and much more!

Whether you’re a seasoned stitcher or a curious beginner, World Stitch Day is your chance to celebrate creativity, heritage, and the power of textiles to unite us all.

FREE to attend and drop in anytime.

WOVEN is a not for profit festival and donations are welcome on the day.
