Even when there’s no big festival happening, there’s often lots of textile events happening across Kirklees.

How many times have you heard the word ‘Woad’? Probably not very often at all, but woad has been woven through history from pre-history to the present day; its influence has permeated society and influenced culture. Although known traditionally for its blue colour, woad provides a vibrant spectrum of colours that can be used for dyeing fabrics, printing and even painting!
Join us over the next twelve months on a journey into understanding this amazing plant. We will investigate and experiment over the year to explore the wide range of uses of woad including dyeing fabrics and clothing, different styles of printing and also using it to paint onto a variety of objects. Participants can join us on just one, several or even all of our workshops to find out what a diverse and interesting plant woad really is.
