This online discussion hosted by the University of Manchester explores how fashion activists – from social entrepreneurs and independent designer-makers, to community arts organisations and academic researchers – are working to rethink the fashion system from the ground up.
We introduce Activist Creatives, a new project bringing together artists, activists and researchers in West Yorkshire, Manchester and Oslo investigating the potential of alternative, pro-environmental fashion activism.
The event features speakers from Manchester Fashion Movement and Stitched Up, who are raising awareness about the damaging effects of clothing consumption and waste on people and planet and inspiring communities to take action on sustainable fashion. Academics from Oslo Metropolitan University, Manchester Metropolitan University, and University of Bradford will also share their research into the relationship between people, fashion, clothing, and fabric, and how this could act as a catalyst for change.
Closed captioning will be enabled and recording made available afterwards.
This event is part of the WOVEN community programme
