Even when there’s no big festival happening, there’s often lots of textile events happening across Kirklees.
The workshop will be led by Art and Chemistry staff at Greenhead College for members of the public. There will be 2 sessions to choose from – morning or afternoon.
Participants will be encouraged to bring onion skins, avocado shells or pomegranate skins along with cuttings, leaves and flowers from their gardens. We will combine the collected items to dye fabrics or small fabric items that people might bring in.
Also on offer will be bundle dyeing, solar dyeing and plant hammering if time allows, to introduce a few ways to create colour out of materials that can be found close to home. We will discuss ways to mordant and fix colour on the fabrics, and how natural dye colours evolve and soften over time.
Suitable for ages 12 and above, under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.
This event is part of the WOVEN community programme. If you have any questions please contact Greenhead College directly.
