Weaving Together a Story of Place is a two-year Paul Hamlyn Foundation funded action research programme, delivered through the Teacher Development Fund (TDF):
‘The purpose of the Teacher Development Fund is to support delivery of effective arts-based teaching and learning opportunities in the primary classroom, and to embed learning through the arts in the curriculum. It aims to do this through supporting teachers and school leaders to develop the necessary skills, knowledge, confidence and experience.’
Kirklees is one of five local authorities around the UK that have received TDF funding for delivery between 2021 – 2023, with each project receiving £150,000.
The Kirklees project began in September 2021 and will run until August 2023.
The cohort brings together two teachers from each of five Kirklees schools:
Meltham C of E Primary School
Upperthong Junior and Infant School
Gomersal Primary School
Pentland Infant and Nursery School
Moorlands Primary School
with 5 textile artists:
Elnaz Yazdani
Leigh Bowser
Melissa Fletcher
Sunna Yasin
Elinor Voytal
Together they learn through a series of creative CPDL days, and co-delivery in the classroom, questioning and exploring how textiles can be brought to life across all subjects in the primary curriculum.
