An embroidered red dress outside a historic hall surrounded by greenery

A WOVEN festival highlight in 2025 is The Red Dress, a globally-travelled collaborative embroidery project at Oakwell Hall this summer.

The award winning project was initiated by British artist Kirstie Macleod in 2009 to help marginalised women tell their stories through stitching, uniting people around the world without borders. The dress now features the work of more than 300 embroiderers from 51 countries and has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide, and will now be on display in Kirklees.

Join a powerful, accessible experience on Sunday 29th June with Jane Ensell – Audio Description Artist, Editor, and Disability Access Consultant.

Explore The Red Dress and its surroundings through vivid, immersive audio description. Jane will guide the sessions, offering detailed description and conversation shaped by the interests and engagement of the audience.

Location: Oakwell Hall
