Shisha or mirror work is a type of embroidery which attaches small pieces of mirrors or reflective metal onto fabric. Shisha embroidery is common throughout Asia, and it can be found in many traditional embroideries from India, Afghanistan, China and Indonesia. The type of embroidery techniques used lend themselves well to clothing, hangings, tapestries, and domestic textiles.
This workshop, led by textile artists Iqra Rafiq & Elnaz Yazdani, will teach you a range of hand stitching techniques for Shisha mirror work, using both flat circular and square mirrors. All materials for the workshop are provided and you’ll be able to take your sample home at the end of the session.
Embroidery is also a great way to relax, unwind and meet new members of your community. Suitable for beginners aged +16.
