Nicola Perren & Dionne Swift in conversation

Join two fascinating local textile artists, Dionne Swift and Nicola Perren, to hear about their processes and inspirations for their work, and their experiences of working on collaborative quilts with people within Kirklees and beyond.

Dionne has been creating, exhibiting and teaching for over 30 years and specialises in free machine embroidery, with a commitment to drawing, observing and reacting to her environment. For Dionne, making is a meditation but her pieces are still imbued with vitality and energy.

A designer and teacher, Nicola’s practice is centred around creativity, play and exploration. Quilts hold a particular fascination for Nicola, specifically Whole Cloth quilts which can be found around the world, and she is interested in quilts that are both functional and not. She is working with local communities as an artist on our Growing Colour Together project and is exploring using more natural dyes in her own work.
