WOVEN during COVID-19: supporting our communities

Unfortunately all WOVEN events planned to take place in 2020 have been cancelled or postponed until further notice.

We had planned to support other festivals and events in Kirklees and to establish a programme of visits to working mills, research facilities and studios, along with short talks by those working in the textiles industry, artists and researchers. These were to be social and informative events, giving all those involved in planning WOVEN 2021 access to a broad knowledge and experience of the thriving textile industry in Kirklees.

As most of this programme is now no longer possible we are focusing our attention on what we can offer our communities online, though our website and on social media.

During our online Open Planning session on 2 April, we asked people to tell us what they would like to contribute and see as online resources and these are some of the ideas that were proposed:

  • Workshops, demonstrations or talks from textile artists and makers – activities people can try out at home – either free or paid workshops. These could be live or recorded.
  • Filmed tours of mills and textile businesses. Maybe this is something that is already available, or maybe you could make a rough and ready introduction filmed on a phone with a bit of commentary from a member of staff?
  • A commerce section where we can list Kirklees-based textile artists and makers who are selling online.

If you have content you would like us to include in our website resources have a look at what we are already sharing and fill in this form with the details of what you would like us to share.

If you are a textile artist/maker who sells online and would like to be included in our commerce section, please fill in this form.

We will be looking to add new content on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and publicising it through our social media channels. If you are submitting a live event, please give us as much notice as possible (at least 7 days ideally).

Please also tag us into any relevant social media about your projects or work so that we can share easily. We’re @WovenInKirklees on instagram and twitter or facebook.com/WovenInKirklees

If you would like to produce a video or other content for the website, but don’t know where to start, please get in touch as we may be able to offer help and technical support.

Please take care and stay safe and we hope to see you all soon.

Best wishes – Nat and Alison
