SUMMARY:WOVEN at UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Display
DESCRIPTION:The UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Display is coming to Wakefield this June and WOVEN is proud to be hosting a weekend of stitch activities alongside the exhibition. Note all events with be hosted in The Factory at Wakefield Exchange. \nSew Queer – On Tour\nSat 6 June 4-6pm\nLed by Thread Republic and Crafty Octopus \n\nSew Queer is a monthly stitch social for LGBTQIA+ folks usually in Huddersfield but for one night only\, is coming to Wakefield. This is a non-taught session for you to bring your own project and craft alongside others. Hosted by Crafty Octopus – Frances Ayres\, who is passionate about creating safe spaces for queer folks that are social and don’t just revolve around bar culture! \n(Please note: this is for 18+ only) \n\nAcross the weekend\nSat 6 – Sun 7 June:\nMy Stitch to You! \n\nJoin Andi Walker\, multidisciplinary artist based in Leeds\, specialising in Constructed Textiles as they take you through a drop in stitch story session.  \nWorking with the stories from the UK Aids Memorial Quilt\, Andi will help you make a personal response to one or more panels. Immerse yourself into the people remembered in the quilts by making your own creative response. Note this may be an emotional activity as you will get to know someone’s story. \nQuilted Postcards \nMeet activist quilt maker\, Chris English\, based in Huddersfield\, as he shares ways to make quilted postcards that you can take home or send to someone special. We would love to know where your postcards end up\, so if you do send them\, don’t forget to send us an image of them being received via social media. \nChris uses mainly recycled materials and makes quilts with a message!  \n\nQuilt pockets of love and remembrance\nWith multi-disciplined Artist\, Maker\, and Facilitator Karen Stansfield\, exploring the art of creative stitch to fashion quilted patch pockets. \nCare\, Compassion and Quilts\nMeltham Quilters host a friendly sewing circle that welcomes both beginners and more experienced quilters to join them for some social sewing. If you have a project on the go and want a social group to share with\, come on down and join in the circle. \nThey will also have a selection of their  special quilts on hand to see and touch.   \nMeltham Quilters have been involved with Quilts for Care for a number of years creating a ‘quilted hugs’ for young people leaving local authority care to support young people as they go out into the world.  Quilts are a wonderful comfort for many\, they are handmade with care\, they can be wrapped around us like a hug or on our lap for warmth. \nFor more details on the UK AIDS Memorial Quilt Display\, including exhibition opening hours please visit their website here
