SUMMARY:Meltham Quilters Open Day
DESCRIPTION:Meltham Quilters is a diverse group of people who came together three years ago to make quilts for young people as they leave the care system and move into independent living. This is part of a nation-wide project; Quilts for Care Leavers  \nDuring our Open Day we will demonstrate the whole process of making a patchwork quilt from start to finish. We will showcase different techniques\, the “tools of the trade” and our resources. \nWe will provide some simple kits for you to try; either with hand sewing or with one of our machines. \nWe will also have some of the quilts that we have made on display for you to have a look at\, touch and feel. \nYou could combine your visit to our Open Day in Meltham to see the Village flower bombing installation that will be around for the whole of June. \nMeltham is a hidden gem\, nestled between Holmfirth and Slaithwaite. If you haven’t visited our lovely village before it is easy to find us\, just hop on the 324 bus from Huddersfield. We are just 15 minutes away from Huddersfield town centre by car. \nFree to attend\, drop in anytime. \nThis event is part of the WOVEN community programme.

SUMMARY:Kirklees Quilts for Care Leavers Open Day
DESCRIPTION:The Q4CLs project provides handmade quilt ‘hugs’ for young people aged between 18 and 24 who are living independently after their time in care of the Local Authority has come to an end. \nThe quilts have been made to promote wellbeing and show these young people they are not alone and that someone cares. \nThe makers of these quilts get a great deal of satisfaction as they are doing something they love at the same time as showing support and understanding for these young people as they begin a new stage in their lives. \nWe see these quilts as lovingly handmade ‘HUGS’. \nThis event is part of the WOVEN community programme. If you have any questions please contact Meltham Quilters directly.
