At West Yorkshire Archive Service Kirklees we collect and care for the unique documentary heritage of Kirklees and help members of the public access and enjoy these records. Our 30,000 boxes of archives cover 800 years of local history relating to the people, places, organisations and businesses of Kirklees.

A key strength of our collections are the thousands of archives that reveal the remarkable history of the textile industry within Kirklees. From woollen, worsted, and fancy cloth manufactures to shoddy, mungo and rag merchants, these collections include textile pattern books, artwork, designs, photographs, diaries, letters, staff records, production records, publicity and marketing records, and financial records. The topic guide below provides an introduction to these collections and further details can be found on our online catalogue: catalogue.wyjs.org.uk. We would be delighted to help you explore and make use of these fascinating archives so please get in touch with us using the contact details below.
