Join us for the WOVEN Growing Colour Together Symposium on Saturday 1 July, to celebrate the work our artists and communities have created together, including…
Arts Council England Artist Panel Discussion: During this panel discussion we will hear from the artists and community members involved in the project to find out what they have been up to and why. This panel discussion will be hosted by the WOVEN team and Dr Rowan Bailey from the University of Huddersfield. We will have time for audience questions and a chance to see the work that has been created with communities.
Guest Speakers will include Bella Gonshorovitz author of Grow, Cook, Dye and Wear, Claire Wellesley-Smith author of Resilient Stitch and Slow Stitch, and a member of the society of dyers and colourists (SDC) for a talk on natural dyes used in the textile industry. This year WOVEN has also had two Postgraduate research students from the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Huddersfield exploring the Growing Colour Together project and its aims. We will be joined by MA researchers Hannah Schofield-Lee and Kayleigh Davis for a short talk on their research and findings around natural dyes.
University Tours: There will be tours of the Barbara Hepworth building including the print and dye facilities with textile samples and techniques to explore throughout the day. Light refreshments will be provided.
BSL interpretation will be available at this event.
