SUMMARY:Hill Tree Park Yarn Bomb
DESCRIPTION:Hill Tree Park is a park home community of 200 people over 50 in Crosland Moor\, Huddersfield \nWe have a weekly knit and natter group which we hold in the local golf club (saving fuel bills as well as providing social contact). We feel we epitomise sustainability as we have learned how to keep going through COVID\, through current economic hardship and through knitting items for a local charity\, Santa’s Seniors\, which provides Christmas gifts for older people who are isolated or have no family. \nWe have a small post box on site which we are going to top and we will be yarn bombing the trees along the road side with bunting\, so our display is quite small on the boundary of the park and is visible from the road to passers-by.

SUMMARY:Knitted Village
DESCRIPTION:Members of Flockton WI have worked together to make a large representation of the village in yarn. Needles and hooks were put into action back in 2019 but then paused during the pandemic so the majority of the work has been done since January 2023. The charm of the work comes from the fact that the buildings and features have all been designed from photographs by the makers themselves and are\, therefore\, very individual in style. \nThe hanging\, approximately 2.5 metres by 1.25 metres\, will be on display outside the church 24/7 for the duration of the festival. \nTwo colour garden planters and crochet flowers will enhance the display which will be visible from the main road.

SUMMARY:Dewsbury Town Centre Planting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Artists and community groups across Kirklees have been busy planting dye gardens and learning how to naturally dye their own textiles and garments. As part of this project dye gardens have been popping up all over the district\, help us plant another one at this exciting town centre gardening workshop! \nTogether we will learn how to plant and look after a town centre planter. We will plant plants perfect for harvesting to make natural dyes. We will use a range of plants and learn about their colour properties\, take away a free growing pack and some seeds so can continue planting beyond the workshop! \nWe will be meeting outside Greggs on Foundry street in Dewsbury and will be working directly into the X5 planters on Foundry street\, turning them into small dye gardens. Come and help us transform the empty planters! \nThis session is suitable for adults with a particular focus on inviting women and girls in the community to take part and explore the wellbeing benefits of gardening and textile. \nBOOK YOUR PLACE

SUMMARY:The Nettle Dress
DESCRIPTION:The film follows the experience of a grieving husband\, who honours the life of his wife by spinning and weaving the fibre of foraged stinging nettles into a dress. \nThis is one of 35 preview screenings across the UK\, ahead of the film’s nationwide release in September 2023. So far\, the documentary has been a word-of-mouth success\, playing to packed houses and winning the Audience Award at the Brighton Cinecity Film Festival. \nAllan Brown is a textile artist and father of four. When his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer\, his foraging\, spinning and weaving took on new meaning and provided solace. The dress took seven years to complete and is woven with 14\,400 feet of thread\, each one representing hours of devoted attention. \nActor Sir Mark Rylance says: “The Nettle Dress is an exquisite\, inspiring film.” \nBOOK YOUR TICKET

SUMMARY:Memorial Gestures I - Laura Fisher
DESCRIPTION:Holocaust Centre North is showcasing an exhibition of work by their first artists-in-residence. \nThrough the Memorial Gestures Residency Programme\, three artists have been invited to explore Holocaust Centre North’s archive. This contains the stories of 100+ Jewish refugees and Holocaust survivors who made new lives in the North of England. \nArtist Laura Fisher has explored the important role textiles played in some families’ lives. Working with Elinor Sykes from the University of Huddersfield\, Laura has created knitted blankets for visitors to look at\, touch and wrap around themselves. \n“The designs of these blankets are based on artefacts that are part of the collection at Holocaust Centre North. Conveying messages of warmth\, hope\, and solidarity\, and facilitated by organisations such as the Red Cross\, these letters and telegrams were often the only means of communication allowed between concentration camp prisoners and their loved ones in the outside world.” \nOpen 10am – 5pm\, Monday – Thursday only.
