DESCRIPTION:Join the Growing Colour Together project to celebrate the arrival of spring with a seeds\, seedlings and plug plants swap at Birkby & Fartown Library. \nLearn more about how the community has been getting involved with Growing Colour Together\, what they’ve been doing with appointed artists\, Michaela Leayova and Cherry Styles\, and how you can get involved with the project. \nMichaela and Cherry will lead the session\, and currently meet every other Tuesday (until 6 June) from 11-12.30 with S2R Gardening and Wellbeing group at Birkby and Fartown Library. They host creative garden-themed activity around zine making\, creative writing\, and natural dye processes\, and together they will create an outcome for the WOVEN2023 festival. \nThe event is child\, family and pet friendly\, and refreshments will be provided. Book your place and tell your friends\, spread the word! \n  \nGrowing Colour Together is more than a project\, it’s a MOVEMENT! And our ambition is to create a district-wide\, natural-dye\, colour garden! SUMMARY:Introduction and Playing with Natural Dyes (Kirkburton)
DESCRIPTION:Join the Growing Colour Together Kirkburton artists Nicola and Seiko for and introduction to working with natural dyes. \nThis exploratory session will introduce you to a number of both core and fun approaches to dying fabric with natural materials. This will include piece dyeing [solid colours]\, bundle dyeing\, the effects of changing the Ph levels and exploring how different fabrics produce a range of results. \nWe will consider how we may take ideas beyond the dye pot into our homes and wardrobes and the ethical and sustainable benefits of natural dyeing. Furthermore\, while we will experiment with a range of dyestuffs\, we will also consider potential development of dyes grown in the local area or our own gardens. \nNatural dyeing can be very straight forward\, and it is easy to achieve quick\, effective and creative results. This session is intended to show how this is possible without deep diving into wider\, but more complex potential directions of mordanting etc. No experience is necessary. \nPlease note\, this session will not go into detail about scouring and mordants – if you are interested\, this information will be included in the Beyond the Basics of Natural Dyeing session\, feel free to sign up for both or just the one. \nBook Your Place
