SUMMARY:Film Screening and Exhibition Celebrating Creativity in Dewsbury
DESCRIPTION:WOVEN and Kirklees Year of Music teams invite you to a screening of STRUT\, a short film and exhibition celebrating creativity in Dewsbury \nYou will be able to explore the exhibition of images taken during STRUT\, a catwalk and music event that happened during the festival in June 2023. Throughout the evening we will also be screening the celebration film by Bohkego. \nSTRUT engaged over 5\,000 people in the run up and during the day long event in front of Dewsbury town hall. As part of the full day of activities we worked with other organisations on pop up workshops\, a skate park and a music stage with Year of Music. We also worked with award winning photographer Casey Orr and her Saturday Town project\, a pop up photo booth in which Casey captured lots of amazing photos of people of Dewsbury. In February 2024\, WOVEN team and Casey are back with an exhibition showcasing the people of Kirklees who shared their creations on the catwalk. \nThe exhibition will be the backdrop for workshops and activities run by Dewsbury community organisations to celebrate the Dewsbury creative community on Saturday 17 February\, with a special local music programme from the Year of Music Team. Outside and inside the town hall there will be lots to do for all the family. \nBOOK YOUR PLACE at this opening event

SUMMARY:The Nettle Dress
DESCRIPTION:The film follows the experience of a grieving husband\, who honours the life of his wife by spinning and weaving the fibre of foraged stinging nettles into a dress. \nThis is one of 35 preview screenings across the UK\, ahead of the film’s nationwide release in September 2023. So far\, the documentary has been a word-of-mouth success\, playing to packed houses and winning the Audience Award at the Brighton Cinecity Film Festival. \nAllan Brown is a textile artist and father of four. When his wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer\, his foraging\, spinning and weaving took on new meaning and provided solace. The dress took seven years to complete and is woven with 14\,400 feet of thread\, each one representing hours of devoted attention. \nActor Sir Mark Rylance says: “The Nettle Dress is an exquisite\, inspiring film.” \nBOOK YOUR TICKET
