SUMMARY:WooLovers Textile Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Sharing Memories Group is an arts and wellbeing group for adults based in the Holme Valley\, that work on intergenerational community arts projects. Their latest project called “WooLovers” delves into the textile heritage of the Holme Valley and Huddersfield. \nThe exhibition showcases 6 months of creative heritage and modern-day craft work by the Sharing Memories Group\, children from three Kirklees Primary Schools\, and adults from The Bridgewood Trust and Enfield Down. \nIt centres around our own “WooLover” character\, Sir John Ramsden\, who was instrumental in the building of The Cloth Hall in Huddersfield. How fitting that the exhibition should feature in the Tolson Museum in Ravensknowle Park\, where the only remaining parts of the Cloth Hall can still be seen! \nThey are looking for new members and volunteers to be part of this fantastic project the group meets every Thursday afternoon from 1–3pm at venues across the Holme Valley. You’ll have the chance to learn and practice a variety of textile crafts\, make new friends\, and connect with the community whilst getting creative.  Find out more information on how to join here. \nThis event is part of the WOVEN community programme. \nFree to attend. No booking required.

SUMMARY:Textile Citizens Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:We live in a world where linear business models based on the hyper production\, consumption and wastage of textile products has established wealth for the few but driven exploitation\, inequality and pollution for the many. \nThose who seek to justify and perpetuate this model do so by saying that it exists at the demand of The Consumer. People – you and I – have been rebranded as Consumers\, with a very clearly defined role in this system: Buy more stuff. \nBut what if we want to opt-out of this system? As a consumer\, our choices to affect change are binary: To buy\, or not to buy? \nWe need a completely different approach if we are to change the dominant business model and it starts by reimagining ourselves not as textile consumers\, but as Textile Citizens. \nOpen 10.30am – 3.30pm \nThursday 26\, Friday 27 & Saturday 28 June \nThursday 3\, Friday 4 & Saturday 5 July \nThursday 10\, Friday 11 & Saturday 12 July \nThis event is part of the WOVEN community programme.
