SUMMARY:Textile Futures
DESCRIPTION:Bringing textile industry demonstrations\, higher education tours and careers information together for the first time in Kirklees\, TEXTILE FUTURES is a collaboration between WOVEN\, industry partners Camira\, Wooltex\, Bower Roebuck\, Gardiner Yarns\, Fabworks\, Textile Centre of Excellence\, and the University of Huddersfield. It is supported by the West Yorkshire Combined Authority. \nThroughout the day you will have the opportunity to speak with local textile manufacturers\, tour the fashion and textiles facilities at the University\, learn about various career pathways into different textile sectors and tour the Technical Textiles research labs to watch textile science experiments. \nThe aim of the day is to inform and inspire young people and their families with the impressive textile manufacturing\, science\, innovation and design on our doorstep in Kirklees. \nVisitors are welcome to drop in throughout the day (11am-2pm) and: \n– Tour the fashion and textile facilities at the Barbara Hepworth Building including the graduate showcase [11:15 / 12:15 / 13:15] \n– Tour & observe live textile Science experiments in the Technical Textiles Research Centre [11:15 / 12:15 / 13:15] \n– Explore the work of Industry Innovators\, ask questions and see what is produced locally [drop in] \n– Talk to textile industry professionals\, University Alumni and post-16 education specialists [drop in] \nARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND FUNDING ADVICE SESSION (12:30-13:30)\nThis short discussion session\, aimed at practitioners and makers\, will be an opportunity for you to find out more about what Arts Council England do and how you can apply for funding with a particular focus on Developing Your Creative Practice.\n* Places are limited – please book a ticket if you would like to attend this free session. \nWATCH THE TRAILER \nBOOK YOUR PLACE \nBSL interpretation will be available at this event.

SUMMARY:Textile Futures
DESCRIPTION:Textile Futures returns for the third time to the University of Huddersfield. \nTextile Futures is a unique fashion and textile careers event and a collaboration between WOVEN\, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the University of Huddersfield. \nEight secondary schools from West Yorkshire\, with four of them being from Kirklees\, will bring a group of textile students to the Barbara Hepworth Building for the day to learn from fashion and textile academics\, tutors\, industry professionals\, and business leaders locally. \nEvery young person will tour around 4 zones: \n1. Industry Innovators\nThe young people will meet textile professionals working in West Yorkshire and have chances to ask them about their job and career pathway. The Textile Centre of Excellence will be offering advice on local textile apprenticeships and UKFT (UK Fashion and Textiles Association) will give a short introductory presentation about the opportunities in the fashion and textiles sector in the UK now and into the future. \n2. Graduate Showcase and University Tour\nThe date of Textile Futures intentionally coincides with the graduate exhibition on display around the Barbara Hepworth Building. Young people will have the chance to explore the work of the graduates and tour the fashion and textile facilities including embroidery\, knit\, weave and fashion construction. \n3. Creative Workshop\nThis is a chance for the young people to get hands on with a practical and creative activity in the print lab. Delivered by print technicians\, students will create a small artwork to take home and remind them of their day. \n4. Technical Textiles\nThe University of Huddersfield is globally renowned for their technical textile research and innovation. A short walk from the Barbara Hepworth Building\, the students will tour the technical textile labs and learn more about the intersection of textiles with other sectors including biomedical\, agricultural and transport. \nThe students will be welcomed by Professor Parik Goswami\, Director for Research\, Innovation\, and Knowledge Exchange at the University. \nThis is a closed event for selected schools only.
