Moors, mills, peat, clogs, grit, and water – explore the ingredients that built the textile excellence of Kirklees past and present in this hands-on guided walk. We’ll focus on your creativity and how you can respond to the environment with your own textile piece.
This guided, creative ‘wandering’ will reveal the unsung hidden heroes of the textile world and engage your interest in the textile heritage and hidden potential of the rural and industrial landscape of the Colne Valley.
The visible and the invisible links to between the peatland moors and the prosperity of the textile mills will be the focus of this moorland walk, taking in parts of the Pennine Way above Marsden. You’ll create your own textile piece working in-situ using stitch, making your own response to the inspiration you find.
Meet at top of Mount Road above Marsden (exact location to be confirmed) Walk will be 2-3 miles maximum. Please dress appropriately!
The walk will go through marked footpaths and will be 2 – 3 miles. Parts of the walk involve terrain that would be challenging for people using wheelchairs and buggies. The walk will be at a slow pace and involve plenty of stops to be creative. (NB more accessibility information will be provided before the event)
