The Temporary Contemporary mission is to examine and expand visual culture and its creative ecologies across the community of Huddersfield. The research project is housed inside Queensgate Indoor Market in partnership with Kirklees Council and the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Huddersfield. Temporary Contemporary runs a programme of exhibitions, late night happenings, workshop events and showcases of arts, visual and music cultures. Temporary Contemporary fosters a mixed ecology of cultures within this environment through collaboration.
During WOVEN textile artists will be exhibiting and interacting with visitors.
Join Victoria at Parlour from 8 – 13 June for Sharing Swatches, which encourages a mass sharing of information about fashion and textiles. Drop by to share your knowledge, top tips, useful links and creative inspirations on a fabric swatch. Help us create a beautiful centrepiece that celebrates this years Woven Festival and informs others about heritage, craft, career development and industry.
You’re welcome to enjoy tea, cake and conversation whilst taking part in the activity or when visiting the textile artists and makers exhibiting work during the festival takeover of Temporary Contemporary. Queensgate Market also hosts a variety of food stalls for you to choose from.
Victoria will also be running morning and afternoon sessions on Friday 14 June called The Fabric of Our Craft for practitioners working or studying in fashion and textiles. They will comprise of a round-table discussion and creative mapping activity to reflect upon and share information and ideas around developing your practice in fashion and textiles.
Morning sessions include a light brunch, or join us for coffee and cake during the afternoon slot. Sessions are underpinned by coaching practices and principles, facilitated by Victoria McCorkell and delivered in a creative, friendly and informal environment. You will leave with your very own creative development map.
Also at Temporary Contemporary from Mon 10 – Sat 15 June you can watch Woven in Film – an hour long looping selection of films curated by Chris Squire if Impossible Arts, which document the textiles industry in the district.
