Spectacular Showcase of Textile Innovation

Bring the family along to the University of Huddersfield on Saturday 15 June to see the Future Fashion Show, created by schools from across the district. The fashion show will take place from 1pm, but do come earlier as there will lots of other activities to take part in…
12 noon: get a tour of the Technical Textiles department to find out about the incredible and cutting edge scientific research and development happening right here at the University of Huddersfield around environmental issues and sustainability in the textile industry and how textile technology is being applied in surprising areas of life and work.
1pm: The Future Fashion Show will involve around 120 children from 14 schools across Kirklees, who have been developing future fashion outfits based on what our clothes might be made from, look like, feel like and do in the future. It’s going to be spectacular!
10am – 4pm: free drop in workshops
– Join the Geek Girls to create light-up badges and bracelets using conductive thread.
– Get up-cycling with Julia Roebuck from Upcycle Fashion. Bring along an unwanted T-shirt to transform into a reusable shopping bag or T-shirt yarn, that you can knit and plait into accessories.
– Take part in Hazuki Knit, a video game that involves knitting!

The Spectacular Showcase of Textile Innovation will shine a spotlight on the incredible scientific and creative innovation taking place in the textile industry today. Scientists, businesses and artists are continually exploring how to make the industry more sustainable and environmentally friendly and this is your opportunity to find out how. Activities focussed around careers in the textile industry are also taking place on Friday 14 June.
