WOVEN takes place every two years, with the next big festival happening in June 2025.
Check back here for the full programme and for one-off events in between festivals.
This one-day workshop will introduce you to the basics of handloom weaving, tapestry techniques and the potential of found and recycled materials to create new textile ideas.
Starting outdoors (weather permitting) you will be guided to capture a range of inspiration (shapes, colours and textures) as we introduce you to the heritage of textiles at the centre of Huddersfield. We will work with photography, sketching and collage to translate these visuals into a design for your woven cloth.
Working in the Barbara Hepworth Building (University of Huddersfield) with an induction into handloom weaving, the afternoon will focus on weaving your own design using a mix of found yarns/discarded materials and stripped-down garments.
This event is part of the WOVEN community programme. If you have any questions please contact the University of Huddersfield directly.
