Growing Colour Together is a natural dyeing project that explores the techniques and processes involved in natural dyeing and how they can be applied to textile art and making.

Visit Tolson Museum and Ravensknowle Park over the final weekend of the festival to learn about growing, foraging and harvesting plants that make natural dyes, about natural dyeing processes and how you can use natural dyes to explore colour in textile art, design and print. Our Growing Colour Together natural dye experts and enthusiasts are looking forward to sharing their knowledge with you and showing you lots of exciting projects you can try at home. Our ambition is to build a network of ‘colour gardens’ across Kirklees, come and find out how you can get involved!

Activities will include workshops on Bundle & Solar Dyeing, Plant Hammering, Screen Printing and Dyeing with Woad, as well as exhibitions using naturally dyed materials and a change to explore the Friends of Ravensknowle Park’s Dye Garden. Within the museum you can also see the results of a project by Year 9 students at Holmfirth High School to design natural dyeing displays that would inspire a young audience.

Pick up a copy of our family friendly workbook of natural dyeing activities to follow as you wander through the park.
